Parks & Rec

Since Southern in the City and The Husband recently joined the dog club, we have learned quite a lot! It's a whole other world out there with regards to canines and their owners. Exhibit A. The dog park.

We live close to Riverside park. If you don't know where this is, it's the upper west side park near the Hudson. If you've seen the movie, "You've Got Mail" this is the one. (I just love 1990's Meg Ryan, but I digress).
Dog parks are everywhere in NYC. Most people think that having a dog in the city is crazy, but it really is one of the most dog-friendly places I know. Since Miss Bailey is only four months old, we weren't sure where we should take her (big/small dog parks) but quickly learned that she is a tough nugget and loves big dogs just as much as ones her own size.

Our first dog park experience was located at 105th street and was great. It's a large area with many a dogs to play with, big and small. This morning, we ventured down to 87th and met some great new friends. It amazes me that everyone knows the dog names but no one knows the owners. Bailey is the new girl in town and everyone wanted to get to know her. She held her own though and ran for almost an hour today. I think the 87th street park has become a favorite.

If you're looking for a great place to take your pup, check out Riverside Park's dog owner's manual for a map of local dog runs. This weekend we're headed down to the dog park near the Natural History Museum and our favorite hamburger place, Shake Shack. And if any of you have great dog spots in the city, send them on!
